Built by a clinician. Engineered for clinicians.
DeRxAI started with a simple frustration: deprescribing decisions are complex, time-pressured, and rarely supported by tools actually built for the job. We're building the tool we wished we had.
The team behind DeRxAI
Aya Al-Kubaisy
Founder & Clinical LeadA pharmacist licensed in Ontario (2025) and the UK (since 2015), with experience across community, hospital, and primary care pharmacy. Aya has spent her career deep in medication reviews, geriatric pharmacy, and deprescribin. Also founded DeRxAI to bring that clinical judgment into a tool that scales beyond a single conversation at a time.
Dr Mohammed Al-Khafaji
AI Developer & Co-FounderBrings years of experience in system development and AI research. Mohammed leads the design and engineering of DeRxAI's clinical AI engine, translating structured pharmacological rules and evidence into a system clinicians can verify, trust, and rely on in day-to-day practice.
"We didn't want to build another chatbot that guesses. We wanted a tool that shows its reasoning — every time."
Not a general-purpose assistant. Not a static checklist.
Most tools in this space fall into one of two camps: broad AI chat assistants with no clinical structure, or rigid PDF checklists with no personalization. DeRxAI sits deliberately in between.
Built on structured clinical rules, not a black box
Every recommendation traces back to a defined rule and a reference — not a generic language model guessing at an answer.
Canada- and Ontario-specific
Formulary, funding, and guideline context that most generic tools — built for other markets — simply don't have.
Whole-patient aware
Frailty (Clinical Frailty Scale) and renal function (eGFR) shape every recommendation — not just a drug-drug interaction check.
Human-in-the-loop, by design
DeRxAI supports the clinician's decision. It's built to be reviewed and overridden — never to replace clinical judgment.
Built for the deprescribing workflow
Tapering plans and monitoring steps — not just a static "stop/start" checklist borrowed from an older tool.
